Tyrol is the ground where the Alps are most densely built for adrenaline. A cable car with three world records up the Zugspitze, a steel cross sticking 13 metres out over the Höllental, paragliders off the Nordkette straight over the roofs of Innsbruck, a 192-metre bungee off the Brenner motorway, the longest footbridge of its kind, an outdoor park with a 27-metre diving tower, and the Inn through the Imst gorge. The cabin leaves the Eibsee, and then for four minutes there is no pylon. 3,213 metres of cable, 1,945 metres of climb, the Wetterstein wall coming closer, and at the top a golden cross on a ridge that drops away on both sides.
The cable-car ticket is sold by the Zugspitzbahn itself. On GetYourGuide the Zugspitze exists only as a day tour from Munich with a driver – the most-booked one has nearly 800 reviews. If you sleep in Garmisch or Innsbruck, buy at the Eibsee base station. Pulse one, but 2,962 metres: flatlanders feel it.

Two steel arms cross and stick out over the edge. The floor is a grating, and through the grating the Höllental drops away until your eye catches on rock. The Alpspitzbahn takes you there, and nobody charges for it.
Free, and not on GetYourGuide. About 14,800 people a month search for the AlpspiX; the only thing to buy is the Alpspitzbahn up, at the counter in Garmisch. To combine it with the Zugspitze, take the Zugspitzbahn's combined ticket. You do not need a head for heights, but it helps.

The Nordkettenbahn climbs from the middle of the city to the Seegrube. A few steps of meadow, the wing fills, and Innsbruck lies below like a street map: the Inn, the Bergisel, the runway. In the Stubai, glaciers behind you.
The lift ticket comes on top. The €125 is the flight; the Elferbahn or Nordkettenbahn you pay at the till. The bridge is barely wider than you, and it sways. Below, the B 179 with cars like toys, then forest, and ahead 406 metres of grating to Fort Claudia. Halfway across, everyone stops talking.
Ticket from the machine, not from a platform. About 12,100 people a month search for Highline 179, and GetYourGuide has it only inside day tours from Munich at several hundred euros. Honestly: drive there, buy at the machine, walk up. An hour and a half from Innsbruck, one from Garmisch.

Three metres feels high, five is a decision, ten takes your breath. Above that stands the 27.5-metre platform of the cliff divers, and you look up and are glad the slide beside it is only 22 metres.

The Inn comes down from the Engadin in a hurry. Fourteen kilometres of gorge, waves breaking over the bow, holes that spin the boat, and in between rock close enough to touch. Two hours, and you are soaked to the bone.
The classic, and the most-reviewed thing in this ground. The Imst gorge is Class 2–3, so from about ten and fine for first-timers; the Ötztaler Ache above it and the Inn at Landeck are the harder sections the local operators sell. June meltwater is the biggest and coldest.

3,535 metres of track, 500 metres of drop, a 450-degree spiral and jumps up to six metres – the longest alpine coaster in the world by the operator's claim, nine minutes from the Untermarkter Alm, children from three with an adult. Not on GetYourGuide; tickets at the Imst cable cars.
Auerklamm, Alpenrosenklamm, Wildwater XL: the Ötztal is the densest canyoning area in the Alps, and the beginner tours take twelve-year-olds. Abseils, slides, jumps up to five metres, wetsuit included.
The Nordkettenbahn takes you from the city centre to 2,256 metres in 20 minutes, the same lift the paragliders ride up. The Bergisel ski jump is the other landmark: a jump tower with a restaurant and the city below.
An hour east of Innsbruck, the country's other big flying school, launching from the Penkenbahn.
West of Reutte the Starzlachklamm at Sonthofen, Bavaria's most-searched canyoning, and to the north Lenggries with rafting on the Isar – both an hour and a half to two hours from Innsbruck.

192 metres – by Wikipedia's figure the fifth-highest bungee jump in the world – off the 190-metre Europabrücke on the Brenner motorway south of Innsbruck. The bridge was Europe's highest from 1963 to 1974. Jumps run on selected summer weekends, direct with the operator Rupert Hirner only; there is no bungee in Tyrol on GetYourGuide.
You buy at the machine at the entrance; no booking needed. The bridge is 406 metres long, 1.2 metres wide and 114 metres high, since 2014 the longest Tibet-style footbridge by Guinness, with about 200,000 visitors a year. GetYourGuide has it only in day tours from Munich for several hundred euros; on site it is a fraction of that.
Austria's biggest outdoor park at the mouth of the Ötztal, 9.5 hectares where the Ötztaler Ache meets the Inn, since 2010: a water park with a diving tower (3 to 10 metres, 27.5 for cliff divers), a 17-metre Slip n Slide, a 22-metre freefall slide, a wakeboard lift, a climbing tower, plus rafting, canyoning, mega swing and flying fox as tours. Water-park entry is about 31 € on GetYourGuide (Sept 25, 2026); the tours you book at the park or with the Ötztal operators.
Right over Innsbruck from the Seegrube at 1,905 metres, via the Nordkettenbahn from the city centre, and in the Stubai valley from the Elfer at about 2,000 metres with roughly 1,000 metres of drop down to Neustift – 12 to 17 minutes of flight, 20 to 140 kg. Both on GetYourGuide from about 125 € plus the lift ticket. Mayrhofen in the Zillertal is the third address.

The 2017 cable car holds three world records: 1,945 metres of climb in one section, 3,213 metres of free span and a 127-metre pylon.
Class 2 to 3 over 14 kilometres of the Inn from Imst to Haiming, about two hours on the water, season May 1 to October 15 – beginner territory that operators call Europe's most popular rafting run. On GetYourGuide from about 69 €. The Ötztaler Ache and the Inn at Landeck are harder, sold by the local operators.
