The longest ziplines in the world you can actually ride

Two and a half kilometres of cable, ridden face down at 150 km/h – and almost nobody tells you how high.

Zipline operators publish length and speed, and almost never height above the ground. So this list ranks by the number they all give – length of the longest single cable – and keeps a second, shorter list for the handful that put a height on record. Every entry links to the ground it sits in and to the offer where one exists; the record holder is sold direct.

What is the longest zipline in the world?

Jebel Jais Flight in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates: a single span of 2,831.88 metres, listed by Guinness World Records, ridden face down at up to 150 km/h. It is two and a half hours from Dubai and sold only by the operator – there is no booking-platform ticket. The Monster in Puerto Rico, at 8,300 feet (about 2,530 m), held the title before it.

What is the fastest zipline in the world?

Zip World's Velocity 2 in Wales claims over 100 mph. On these grounds the fastest published speeds are the Monster in Puerto Rico at up to 95 mph (153 km/h), Iceland's Mega Zipline at 120 km/h, Madeira at 110, and Flåm and Whistler's Sasquatch at 100 km/h or more.

How high above the ground are ziplines?

Usually nobody says. Of the ziplines on 22 grounds, only seven publish a height: the Monster in Puerto Rico at more than 380 metres, the highest cables at Arenal–Monteverde and Učja at 200, the Sasquatch in Whistler at 183, Goliath in the Smokies at 145, the First Flyer in Grindelwald at 50 and the YS Falls line in Jamaica at 12. The rest quote length and speed, which is why our ground pages put those ziplines outside the fall.

Is there a weight limit for ziplining?

Yes, and it varies with the cable. Published limits on these grounds: Flåm 25 to 140 kg, the First Flyer 35 to 125 kg, JungleQui in Puerto Rico 275 lb (about 125 kg), Ulriken up to 100 kg, the Cape Canopy Tour about 100 to 110 kg. Minimum weights exist because a light rider can stall on a long cable; maximums come from the harness and the brake. Children are usually allowed from six with a minimum height.

Do I need to book a zipline online?

The big parks with tours – Toro Verde, Ziptrek, Foxfire, the Costa Rica canopies, Učja – are on GetYourGuide and listed here with their price. The record line at Jebel Jais, the Flåm Zipline and the First Flyer are bought from the operator, at the counter or on their own sites; we say so at each entry.

What does a zipline cost?

On these grounds, from about $28 for the Kawarau Zipride in Queenstown and CHF 35 for the First Flyer to about $119 for a three-hour Ziptrek tour and $178 for the Cape Canopy Tour. The Monster and the Beast at Toro Verde are sold as a park pass. Prices in the list are GetYourGuide's per-person prices on the date at the foot of the page.
